Members

A Common Mission
Each Healthpartners member organization is a national health charity, providing services to Canadians in all regions of our country. Member organizations share goals in two primary areas:

  • Research - supporting medical research toward improved treatment, and ultimately a cure, for debilitating diseases. 
  • Programs - sponsoring education, as well as prevention efforts and services that assist Canadians living with disease.

Profiles

The Alzheimer Society of Canada works to alleviate the personal and social consequences of Alzheimer's disease, and to promote research aimed at discovering its cause and cure. Half a million Canadians are living with Alzheimer's disease or related dementias, and that number could increase by 50% in as little as 5 years.

The ALS Society of Canada The ALS Society of Canada is dedicated to finding a cure or effective treatment for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. The Society funds research into the cause and cure, promotes education and awareness, and provides patient, family and caregiver support. This disease affects six or seven out of every 100,000 people.

The Arthritis Society The Arthritis Society funds research into the causes and cures of arthritis, and supports patient care and public education. Arthritis is Canada's most prevalent chronic disease, affecting close to four million Canadian men, women and children.

The Canadian Cancer Society The Canadian Cancer Society is a community-based organization of volunteers whose mission is the eradication of cancer and enhancing the quality of life of people living with cancer. The Society funds medical research, patient services and public education. One in three Canadians will develop some form of cancer in his or her lifetime.

The Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation The Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CCFF) is dedicated to finding a cure or control for CF, an inherited, fatal disorder affecting the respiratory, digestive and reproductive systems. The CCFF's programs have contributed to dramatic improvements in the median age of survival of Canadians with CF (from four years of age in 1960, to over 35 years today).

  The Canadian Diabetes Association is a volunteer-based organization promoting the health of Canadians through diabetes research, education, service and advocacy. Diabetes can slowly damage blood vessels in the body, resulting in serious complications, such as heart disease, blindness, kidney disease, and peripheral nerve diseases. Over two million Canadians have diabetes.

The Canadian Hemophilia Society The Canadian Hemophilia Society (CHS) exists to improve the quality of life for all persons with inherited bleeding disorders. The CHS is dedicated to raise public awareness about the prevalence of bleeding disorders, provide information and support, ensure that proper diagnosis and treatment are available, fund research to improve the qualify of life for patients and eventually to find a cure.

The Canadian Liver Foundation 
Over 3 million Canadians are affected by liver disease and countless more are at risk of developing liver disease during their lifetime. The Canadian Liver Foundation (CLF) represents the liver health interests of all Canadians by supporting research, public and professional education and advocating for better prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Through our LIVERight initiative, the CLF is striving to reduce the incidence of preventable forms of liver disease by raising awareness of risk factors and providing practical tools and information to help Canadians safeguard their liver health in daily life.

The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada is dedicated to finding the cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, which are chronic digestive disorders of the small and large intestines. They are also referred to as inflammatory bowel disease or IBD. Approximately 170,000 Canadians of all ages suffer from these disorders.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada is dedicated to reducing the incidence of disability and death resulting from heart disease and stroke. It is estimated that 40 per cent of Canadians will be affected by heart disease or stroke. The Foundation works to reduce this number through research, education and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.

The Huntington Society of Canada seeks to find a cure and treatment for people with Huntington's disease through research, service and education. Huntington's is an inherited and fatal brain disorder causing symptoms ranging from uncontrollable movements to mental deterioration. It affects the life of one in every 1000 Canadians.

The Kidney Foundation of Canada is dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of the millions of Canadians living with kidney disease and related disorders. The Foundation funds medical research, provides patient services, advocates for access to quality healthcare and actively promotes awareness of organ donation.

The Lung Association The Lung Association is one of Canada's oldest voluntary associations with its roots in the Canadian Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis. Today, it fights respiratory diseases of all types through research and programs such as smoking prevention and cessation, asthma education and clean air promotion. Over five million Canadians suffer from lung disease.

The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada provides services to the estimated 50,000 Canadians who have MS and their families. It funds medical research into the cause, prevention, treatment and cure for MS. The Society also carries out social action and public education programs.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada Muscular Dystrophy Canada is a national registerred charity that acts as a supporter of the tens of thousands of Canadians with neuromuscular disorders and a leader in the fight against more than 100 neuromuscular disorders. Muscular Dystrophy Canada provides equipment and peer support services, advocates for changes in national social policy, creates awareness through public education, and funds principal research to find therapies, treatments and cures for neuromuscular disorders.

The Parkinson Society Canada The Parkinson Society Canada is the national voice of the nearly 100,000 Canadians living with Parkinson's. Our purpose is to ease the burden and find a cure through advocacy, education, research and support services. Parkinson's is a chronic, slowly progressive disease, the symptoms of which appear when there is not enough dopamine in the brain. Dopamine is a naturally occurring chemical that allows nerve cells to transmit messages between each other and then to muscles to facilitate normal movement.
